Digital TV receivers
A special set-top box with an analog television, a digital TV or PC TV receiver with DVB-T logo can be used to view over-the-air digital TV. All the devices that will pick up the signal use a universal DVB-T standard. All set-top boxes and TVs that are DVB-T compliant will display the DVB-T logo.
If the analog TV or set-top box and displays the DVB-T logo, it will receive the new digital TV signals. Make sure to look for the logo when shopping for new TV receiving equipment.
The different available digital TV receivers are summarized here below.
System connection through PC
There are over-the-air digital TV receivers available on the market that can be plugged into a personal computer, through its USB ports or by inserting a card into a desktop computer. Because the digital TV receiving system is small, it does not always display the DVB-T logo prominently. Therefore you will want to make sure that one of these computer peripheral devices is compatible with the DVB-T standard.
These types of receiver devices aren’t always available in local stores but can be easily purchased on the internet.
Set-top box
The least expensive way to receive the new digital television signals is by purchasing a set-top box. There is a variety of features a box may have. This can span anywhere from boxes that simply receive the signal and pass it on to your television screen, to receivers that allow you to record your favorite programs or to receive premium channels with a monthly subscription in addition to the free over-the-air digital channels. The boxes are available starting from the simplest version at NAF. 45 going up to NAF. 364 for versions with more features.
New flat-panel digital TVs
New flat-panel digital TVs are available in many different sizes and prices at various stores in Curaçao. When buying these TVs also look for the DVB-T logo. If it doesn’t display the logo, you will not receive the new digital TV channels.
A TV with only an ATSC or HDTV logo will not be comply with the Curaçao digital TV standard and will therefore not receive digital channels. So make sure you see the DVB-T logo prominently displayed on the TV.
If you have a digital TV with the ATSC logo you may still use a set-top box to receive the new DVB-T signals.
A new DVB-T TV will receive both the new digital channels and the old analog channels. It will enable you to see all your favorite programs, of which some will display a clear and crisp digital image. All new DVB-T TVs should be able to receive the current analog channels but BT&P advises you to confirm this when purchasing your TV.
To see the current analog channels your TV must be able to receive a NTSC signal.
