DVB-T Introduction and migration

The television market in Curaçao experienced a technological migration in 2006 from over-the-air analogueue to digital TV. This transition has already taken place worldwide, from the United States and Europe to Asia. In our region this process has taken longer, however since 2011 the Caribbean can also benefit from the advantages:

  • Better signal reception for the viewer, with the possibility of reception through portable receivers
  • Better quality and resolution, with the possibility of High Definition Television (HDTV)
  • A more extensive programme package, including the introduction of new television services on the market
  • Efficient use of the frequency spectrum, as more channels can be transmitted at the same frequencies

For the migration from analogueue to digital in the television market there are a number of aspects and policy principles that must be considered that contribute to the decision making process with regard choices involved with respect to the applied standards, frequencies and the preparation for the introduction of DVB-T.
