Director BT&P appointed as Vice-President of the UPAEP Congress

Willemstad, 19 September 2017 – The Director of Bureau Telecommunicatie en Post (BT&P), Mr. Franklin Sluis, was appointed yesterday at the 23rd edition of the UPAEP Congress, held in Mexico, as the Vice President of the UPAEP Congress (representing Curacao) for a four (4) year tenure. The 23rd edition of the Congress is held from 18 September till Friday 22 September 2017.

The UPAEP (Unión Postal de las Américas, España y Portugal) is the international intergovernmental organization, represented by the governments of 28 different countries worldwide, with the primary objective to foster technical cooperation between member countries, postal organizations and regulators in the postal market and to represent the interests of its members.

The UPAEP executes its duties in accordance with the following spearheads: the promotion of the quality of postal services worldwide, the interoperability and security of postal networks through effective usage of ICT applications and the improvement of cooperation between the governments of member countries. All with the purpose of benefitting the overall development of the postal sector and the exchange of knowledge and information in the field of regulation and post related government policies.

The UPAEP is committed to execute its tasks within the framework of the World Postal Strategy of the UPU (Universal Postal Union). This strategy was established at the Universal Postal Congress in Istanbul in 2016, for the period 2017 – 2020 and encompasses 3 main goals, being: to improve of the interoperability of the postal network infrastructure, to ensure sustainable and modern postal products and to foster market and postal sector functioning which in turn must contribute to the economic development of all member states.
