Digicel Curacao to provide high speed fiber to schools

The Government of Curacao and Digicel have signed an agreement on the School Digitalization Project to offer high speed fiber-optic internet to 118 schools, under a joint plan overseen by the Ministry of Education and Bureau Telecommunicatie en Post, after Digicel’s proposal was selected as the best-suited technically and economically. The project will use Digicel and its subsidiary TRES Networks’ fiber-optic network to provide three levels of internet speeds based on the number of students at each school. Metro Ethernet connections of 100Mbps, 200Mbps and 300Mbps were chosen as the base speeds, with all schools connecting to shared bandwidth via a centralized data center also enabling control of website/content access. An initial phase of 60 schools can be connected to fiber within a week, according to Digicel.
