Willemstad – April 6th 2020 – The Management of Bureau Telecommunicatie en Post (BT&P), recently repositioned as Regulatory Authority of Curaçao, submitted its annual report for 2020 to the Minister of Traffic, Transportation and Urban Planning, Ms. Zita Jesus-Leito. In doing so the Management of BT&P and the Supervisory Board comply with the annual reporting obligation according to the National Ordenance Bureau Telecommunicatie en Post (P.B. 2006, no. 69) (Landsverordening Bureau Telecommunicatie en Post, (P.B. 2006, no. 69)).

The 2020 annual report gives a clear overview of the work carried out according to the authority as assigned to BT&P, developments of the organization and a general outline of the work and regulatory activities as accomplished in 2020. The timely submission of this annual report marks the fifth consecutive time that BT&P complies with the Ordenance and maintains its established good practice in this regard.

Over time, BT&P has developed into a multi sector regulatory authority, which includes telecommunication, post, electricity, water, fuel, airport tariffs, Caricert (National Cyber Emergency Response Team of the Caribbean). Additionally, as of this year they will also serve as an advisory entity to the government regarding the tariffs in the Healthcare sector.

BT&P is entrusted with the regulation of more than 35% of our Gross National Product. Through the regulation and support of these sectors, government policies to ensure quality of services and products and affordable consumer prices are supported. As part of its framework of tasks and responsibilities BT&P contributes to national knowledge development, for example, by being at the forefront of efforts for the development of Curaçao into a Smart Nation. BT&P, with its leading role in the IPE initiative (Institute for Professional Excellence), also contributes to the preparation of the community for the jobs of the future.
