Relevant topics about the development of Curaçao as a Smart Nation were addressed with the goal of establishing initiatives for public-private partnerships and fostering collaborations between knowledge institutes and investors.
Implementing the vision of a Smart Nation is not an easy task. It requires a multi-disciplinary working environment as well as the deployment of the necessary resources and skills. A turnaround of the present business models of entities, corporations and markets is required so that these can function in an efficient society. This implies a strategic deployment of investments in technology to create a digital infrastructure with a tech-savvy population and workforce.
During the two-day event this approach was supported by a wide range of national and international speakers. In the presentation of the various expert views and perspectives the 7 key pillars of a Smart Nation were covered: Smart Investment, Smart Economy, Smart Government, Smart People, Smart Living, Smart Environment and Smart Mobility.
Among the notable speakers were renowned professor and author Ben Gomes-Casseres, Vice President of Telemundo Television James Stamatis and President of Fedesoft Colombia Paloa Restrepo. Director of BT&P, Franklin Sluis, also participated as an expert in the area of multidisciplinary supervision and regulation. Among other aspects, he addressed the unique position of BT&P as a regulator for the telecommunications sector and internet security, how BT&P responds to developments in the field of ICT, and his view on the conditions and policy consequences that accompany the development of a Smart Nation.
